Download of the Week: Caffeine 1.0

What it does: Keeps your computer from dimming the screen or going to sleep

Why you need it: If you are showing a powerpoint/keynote or a movie, your screen my dim or go black over time depending on your energy settings on your laptop. For example, my computer is set to go to the screensaver if I don't move my mouse or type anything for 15 minutes. If I were showing a movie on my computer to a class, my screensaver would kick in after that 15 minutes and mess up the movie. This little program will keep this from happening without having to change your energy settings for your computer. And, when you are done showing your movie/presentation, you just turn it off

How to get it: You can download Caffeine 1.0 by clicking here. Once downloaded, just drag into your applications folder.

How to use it: Double click the Caffeine icon and the program will open. If you look on the upper right side of your computer, you will see some ZZZ's in your tool bar. In this state, you computer will go to sleep/screensaver like normal. Click once on the ZZZ's and they will get a line through it. Now your computer will not go to sleep/screensaver and you can show your movie/powerpoint without worry of you screen going dark

How often should you use it: Whenever you need to keep your screen lit for long periods of time

Enjoy!
